Gucci Ostrich Hobo

July 10th, 2009

Another pearl that we stumbled upon in the Bal Harbour Gucci store was the Gucci Medium Hobo that had just been released to the public eye and isn’t even available on their official site yet. The shape accords the pictured fuchsia ostrich hobo, the material was different. Its leather was entirely covered with their new horsebit emboss and came in either a darker brown shade or more of a burgundy red. Completed was the gorgeous $1080 hobo with single strap, zip-top closure, bamboo ring details, bamboo ornament zipper pull, embossed Gucci script logo on strap, studs, and an inside zip pocket. Megs fell in love immediately, but had to pull out of a possible impulse buy once reality settled back in. We will try to hunt down a picture of the gorgeous leather and report on it later. In the meanwhile, I would really recommend the pictured Gucci Ostrich Hobo. The bag is currently on sale from almost $4k down to $2,300 and available directly through Gucci. I got a little touchy with the bag and was positively surprised about the supple and soft appeal of the quality ostrich leather. If you dig pink and have a thing for feathered bird leather, grab it while it’s hot

We continued our excursion through Bal Harbour Shops, and obviously the Gucci store had to be one of our stops as well. It had appeared to us on several earlier occasions that employees of exclusive stores didn’t really seem to be too eager to consult a couple in the mid-20s (as opposed to the usual clientele of the older 40+ stash that usually seems to be roaming their grounds) about their newest and hottest items. We decided to give another approach a try. Megs’ mom was kind enough to let her daughter sport her horsebit hobo that she’s gotten a few weeks ago, and let me tell you — the store experience was slightly different. Let’s just say that Gucci does honor their recurring customer base. We did spend a good hour in there and we have particularly three bags in mind that require coverage today.

As I mentioned last night, BH stores enjoy the presence of special limited items that others around the country just have to miss out on. One of these stores was Gucci and the item in focus was the Gucci Crocodile and Ostrich Patchwork Bag. It was showcased in its own window on the side of the store all by itself and was just glaring at us with handcrafted details and superb materials. The friendly salesman (whose name I can’t recall, I’ll dig up his biz card later) brought it out for us to inspect — in my opinion the best $22,700 spent *if* you have them to spend on a bag. The blonde crocodile and ostrich patchwork, along with the bamboo detail and the gold hardware on the strap make the bag’s bite match the bark. Fantastic! Talking about exclusivity, there are only 10 (read: ten) of these made worldwide, and we got to appreciate it in its gorgeous entirety. The picture I pulled off the Gucci page shows the right bag — however, the strap on the one that we saw was much longer than the one depited here. Personally, it was my first time getting touchy and feely with a $20k+ bag, but I do realize where the price tag comes from. The stitching was handcrafted with out-of-this-world perfection and the materials just felt so right. If you are a collector or someone who enjoys highly exclusive shoulder bags, you may want to give this creation a try.

Gucci Crystal Evening Bag

July 9th, 2009

It has been quite a while since I last discussed a Gucci bag with you. The problem for me is that lately every single Gucci bag has been heinous. I really despise the Gucci Monogram pattern, while I am not much of a monogram fan in general, the Gucci monogram makes me cringe for some reason. Luckily, there is finally a little accessory I do not have to click the X out button really quick on. Purple or black patent leather pulled tight make the Gucci Crystal Evening Bag a stunning accessory. I absolutely love the purple patent leather. The color reminds me of fresh juicy grapes right off the vine. There is a Gucci script detail in the bottom left coroner which is the perfect touch. Another surprising factor is this evening bag is affordable in the world of designer handbags. Pre-order at Saks for $695.

I am oddly drawn to this bag. Do I need to be smacked across the face with a dead fish? The Gucci Horsebit Hobo is a stunning bag (I own it in tobacco leather) and this version is different to say the least. The horsebit chain detailing remains on the top of the Gucci Floral Horsebit Hobo and there is blue and red embroidered canvas to add a certain touch. I am well-aware of the fact that this would not be an everyday bag, but wouldn’t it be really fun with some outfits? And face it, if you are a handbag collector, you have an array of handbags to switch around so it is not totally crazy. Right now it is marked down a ton, and I keep looking at it wondering if I should go go for it.

On sale at Gucci for $1379 (marked down from $3450).

So, should I do it??

Gucci Monogram Baby Carrier

July 8th, 2009

It is back! Remember the infamous Gucci Baby Carrier that I covered in 2005? And if you do not remember, it is most likely because you had no idea this site existed, and that makes perfect sense since our traffic was minuscule compared to what it is now. For some reason this Designer Baby Carrier caused quite the ruckus! Some loved it, some hated it, some hated those that loved it and vice versa. In fact, I was baffled at the comments that post received. And then I revived it showing Gwen Stefani carry baby Kingston in her Gucci Baby Carrier. Gwen pulls off the Gucci baby carrier magnificently, she looks so effortlessly chic, per usual. But should we trust the Gucci Baby Carrier to be the safest mode of transport for our young ones? That question is ultimately up to you, but I do question if this carrier puts style in front of safety. Dimensions are 16″W X 18?”H X 7?”D and it is available on the Saks website in beige/ebony GG fabric. Buy through Saks for $850.

Not so fast! If you were sold on this, I may have some photos that make you reconsider. Guess who else was seen recklessly and most definitely improperly using the Gucci Baby Carrier?

Gucci Birthday Cake

July 8th, 2009

I am officially jealous of this cake. Jealous of the receiver, jealous of the people that could actually create and design this, jealous of all who helped eat it. This is indeed a cool cake. Looks like this was given as a gift for a 21st 26th birthday. And while so many people equate lots of shots on their 21st 26th, a designer handbag cake would have been up my ally so much more. This is a Gucci Cake complete with a Gucci Boston Bag on top of a Gucci Box. Even the little cookie would have made my day. I can not imagine the price for a cake like this, novelty enough that it would end up being totally ridiculous, but isn’t it amazing?

I am now rethinking our wedding cake. Why did we go traditional when I could have had a full fledged designer handbag cake for all of our guests. My birthday is coming in September though. Instead of Gucci, I would prefer more of a Chanel or Hermes. Just sayin’

Get Drunk with Hello Kitty…Literally

July 7th, 2009

We all know the line: “there’s a Hello Kitty everything.” And yet, I still manage to be surprised when I hear about new HK products! Over at Topless Robot Rob has spotted the latest travesty: Hello Kitty beer.

It’s actually a really odd product. Apparently a joint venture between Sanrio and German brewery Beck’s, the labeling is pink and even sports a “female” symbol a well as Hello Kitty’s doubtlessly intoxicated face…but the bottle is still a manly green, which, um, is really ugly with pink, if you ask me. I mean, I could have forgiven the big burly BECKS logo, but couldn’t they have switched to a clear bottle, or even just a more standard brownish tint? I dunno.

Of course, this is hardly Hello Kitty’s first alcoholic beverage– after all, she was created in 1974, so she’s ben legal for almost 15 years.  She’s hawked her own wine, sake, martinis, you name it. And I’m willing to bet that there are some bars in Japan with drinks illicitly named after the pop culture icon (and maybe some with legit drinks too).

That said…if someone came to your con party with a six-pack of these, and you were legally of age to drink…would you?

A BOHO LOOKING GUCCI MEDIUM DRAWSTRING SHOULDER BAG

July 6th, 2009

Can you imagine that a classic bag from a premier designer could actually look bohemian and not really that classic? Well imagine no more with this Gucci Handbags. It actually looks appealing and it is indeed a fresh take on classic design, making it even more interesting for today’s fashion.

This gucci handbags comes in the signature interlocking GG patterned fabric with rich brown leather trimming. The drawstring closure with tassel detail, accented with logo ornament, indeed brings that bohemian vibe to this purse, including the shape.

This shoulder bag measures about 18.9 x 15.7 x 1.6 inches, so it is really large to let you pack in all your important stuff and whatnots. It also has zipped and open pockets, sitting on the cotton lining for additional storage. Large as it may seem, the adjustable shoulder strap of 5? inches drop should be enough to carry it with ease.

And though coming in that signature print tells that this gucci purses is a luxury, the price remains quite reasonable enough for $890. At least you know that in exchange to the somewhat

Notoriously abusive to Louis Vuitton handbags

July 5th, 2009

The Louis Vuitton handbag is made of coated canvas with subtle sheen for additional style and it features the graphic 1929 logo discovered from Louis Vuitton’s archives. It as well has an address tag on one side and a removable leather key bell dangling from the handle for accent.
Kim Kardashian stops at Dash along with her sisters and Louis Vuitton Traveller for raining. The bag is designed by Marc Jacobs that is part ofLouis Vuitton handbag Cruise 2009 collection.
It also has smooth leather trim in black and some polished gold metal hardware to contrast. Although it looks unstructured, it actually has a framed top with zip closure underneath, accented with signature padlock pull.
But on to this Louis Vuitton handbag , There’s no denying the fact that it’s adorable. In my not so humble opinion, this would be the perfect coach purse for those of you with daughters who are dying to have a designer bag.
“just happens” to leak over everything in her bag.Inside zip pocket Cellphone/multifunction pockets Ring to clip an accessory or keyfob Zip-top closure Signature sateen fabric with leather trim Fabric lining 15 3/4” strap 10” drop .
Girls are notoriously abusive to Louis Vuitton handbags after all, and at least with this one, you won’t sweat it too much if her perfume, concealer, lotion, et cetera.

A glance at BRIGHTON FASHION WEEKEND

July 4th, 2009

Brighton Fashion weekend returns for its’ 5th year over the Bank Holiday Weekend 22-24 May. Fashionistas and just those with a passing interest in fun and fashion alike are bracing themselves for an exhilarating weekend of events.

The highlight of the weekend is a Theatrical Catwalk Show to be held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on Friday 22nd and featuring the work of 12 innovative and cutting edge designers (including Get Waisted!). Also featuring are Tom Lipop of Sky One’s Project Catwalk fame with his first collection and other local designers Renaissance, Suzie Turner, Jo Fleming, Gresham Blake.

This event is also supporting breast and cervical cancer research. This is something I have been personally touched by recently and am particularly be pleased to help in any way I can.

AND GUESS WHAT? YOU GET TO SHOP……

Of course you do! Over the Saturday and Sunday 23rd/24th the Brighton Frocks Fashion Emporium will take place with sales of clothes, textiles, jewellery and eyewear.

In addition there are all sorts of events going on both at the Hilton and across town featuring open studios, demonstrations, DJ’s and fashion installations across the city. Look out for Get Waisted models on the pier and at the Emporium.

This event is going to be huge and has already attracted major sponsors like Red Bull, Barefoot Wines and our very own Juice 107.2. I can barely contain my excitement (you can tell can’t you) but it is genuine – even if the work involved can seem overwhelming at times

SPRING IS HERE…HURRAY

With summer around the corner,we are now looking at ways to look and feel good.
With a flatter stomach, smaller waist and boosted cleavage, slipping into the tightest of bodycon (that’s body-conscious) dresses in a matter of weeks can be tricky.
The oldest trick in the book when it comes to stomach cinching: standing with your stomach drawn in, tie a piece of string around your waist underneath clothes so that it fits snugly without digging into your flesh.
Originally used by deportment schools to train their students to keep their figures held in, the string will become tight and uncomfortable should you slouch and relax your stomach muscles throughout the day, and acts as a gentle reminder to keep yourself pulled in.
Wear the string for a month and the reflex to engage your muscles will kick in,

Alternatively, brush up on your belt work. If you’ve long since limited them to your jeans, now’s the time to get adventurous. Invest in a “Get Waisted” Cincher. Belted dresses, wide floaty skirts and dresses, in bright tropical colours are going to be huge this summer and will help exaggerate your waist, while also creating curvier-looking hips.

Chic Cyclist Couture Hits The Runways As A Fashion Trend For Fall 2009

July 3rd, 2009

Cyclists have forever relied on spandex clothing and bright, fitted fashions; but now cyclist fashion is stepping off the race course and onto the fashion runways for fall 2009. Watch out bikers, whether your fashion choices were for function or style, you’re about to be one step ahead of the latest trend!
Top designers like Alexander Wang, Miu Miu, Prada, Micheal Kors, and Abaete are embracing a sporty new style, as they recently showcased in their fashion shows with upcoming styles for fall 2009. The main feature in all of these fashions is the classic biker short look, with its tight, lean and above the knee style. Like the tight trend of the spring and seasons earlier, the biker short fashion is designed to be layered, and some designers and taking the cyclist-chic trend to the next level by incorporating tops from the Tour De France color palate.

What do you think about these biker-chic styles? Should they remain on those ready to pedal their way to the finish line, or are they well-suited on the runways?

Louis Vuitton handbags

July 1st, 2009

The man the emperor found was Louis Vuitton, a professional luggage handler who packed luggage for upper class families. Vuitton broke ground by inventing airtight and flat stackable luggage. From these beginnings, Vuitton constructed his business, establishing his first design offices in 1854.

At the World’s Fairs in 1867 and 1889, Louis Vuitton won first a bronze and then a gold medal in recognition of the excellence of his bags. But it wasn’t until 1892 that the first of his handbags hit the market. Soon after the company’s luggage line grew larger and larger. Since the very beginning, and right up to today, these designer hand bags have been respected and known as synonymous with high end quality and craft.

Fast forward to today’s world, and Louis Vuitton handbags have become markers of class and luxury. This contributes to making Louis Vuitton brand bags the industry leader. In fact, the bags are so coveted that fertile counterfeiters flood the market with fakes, so that less than 1% of the bags bought and sold are genuine Louis Vuitton made.

In an effort to counter the efforts of bootleg handbags, Vuitton’s son Georges introduced the LV Monogram Canvas in 1896, which was an industry first. The canvas is the designer’s label branded onto the product at the factory. Only genuine Louis Vuitton luggage has the LV Monogram Canvas. Imitators may try to copy it, but the trained eye will know the difference!
