Don’t talk yourself into an outfit that isn’t flattering to your frame. There are only two kinds of clothes in this world. Clothes that flatter you and clothes that don’t and avoid the latter regardless of how popular and trendy they are.
It is one thing to go shopping with your girlfriends because that can be very social and enjoyable but keep in mind don’t shop with a competitive friend because she will cajole you into buying more and possibly unflattering items weather or not you need it.
If you are shopping for a cocktail (event) dress remember to bring your shoes. That way if you need to have in-store alterations you will be all set.
If you need to power shop remember to bring a list. This can help focus your attention and keep you on task.
Nothing good will come from buying uncomfortable shoes regardless of how fabulous they are.
Don’t buy something you don’t need because it is a fantastic sale price. I know we have all done this but it is a waste of money and closet space.
Don’t buy on impulse. Ask yourself the following questions when deciding if to buy. Do I need this? Does it fit with my lifestyle or wardrobe? Where am I going to wear this? If you are still undecided then put it on hold and if you are still thinking about it at the end of the day -buy it.

The Complete Guide To Choosing Butterfly Tattoo Ideas
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009Been contemplating getting a butterfly tattoo? Well they are very hot right now among women to tell the truth they are the most searched for tattoo design for women and have been for a long time. It really is no surprise how often people are looking for this tattoo considering how beautiful butterflies are with their wide range of colors and the wonderful symbolic life they live? The problem is many women know they want to get a butterfly tattoo but finding the right design can be difficult. It can be frustrating to be stuck looking at endless tattoo flash that doesn’t express the feeling or tone you want for your tattoo. Often looking online leads to further frustration. So if you are in that place and have been spending hours looking online then you will want to read this article for sure.
The Common Butterfly Tattoo Styles Designs
Even though these tattoos often get all lumped together under one banner there really are many different styles and forms of the butterfly tattoo. If you are considering getting one then it makes sense to take some time and explore the different styles available and discover what you like best. This will help focus your searching efforts and help you to better communicate
Celtic
Celtic styles always feature Celtic knotwork. These are always a series of endless knots that weave over top and under each other to make a delicate and intricate net work forming a butterfly. Often these are done in black and white but sometimes they include some color.
Tribal
Tribal butterflies are always done in black ink and are a series of edgy lines that form a kind of tribal looking design in the shape of a butterfly. These are strong bold butterflies that can be seen at a distance and are not as intricate or colorful as some of the other designs but the boldness makes them unique and interesting.
Realistic
Realistic butterflies can be kind of a broad range but any type of butterfly that is instantly recognizable as a butterfly would typically fit in this category. These designs typically are done with bright or even brilliant colors and often feature a wide range of colors.
Cartoon
Cartoon butterflies are not so much a cartoon like Snoopy but instead these are designs of big beautiful butterflies that look semi realistic but have a black outline and are somewhat simplified over the more realistic looking designs.
Combinations
Of course there are some that will not fit into any category. So this category is a little harder to find a typical design for but combination designs are when a butterfly is just a part of a larger overall tattoo. For example it might be a back piece with faeries, flowers, and butterflies all together.
Finding Examples
The next thing you will want to do after deciding on the overall design of butterfly is to find some source pictures of tattoos that have things you like about them. For example do a google image search and find 5 different designs that you really like. Print them out and then write down what you like in each one and generate a list of the styles and elements you want to have in your design.
Select An Artist
After you have finished the above steps and chosen your style and found some pictures to express your ideas you will want to next find a tattoo artist that will work with you in creating a custom design. You can always take a shortcut and just choose some common flash on the wall at a local tattoo shop. However, typically you will not be very pleased with the result. By taking the time and having a custom design done you can really ensure that the tattoo you have done is something you will love for many years to come.
By taking your time and narrowing down what style you want, finding resource photographs to work from and finding a professional tattoo artist you almost guarantee that you will love the tattoo you end up with for the rest of your life! Tattoos are expensive no doubt about it but paying that extra is money well spent. Most of all take your time in selecting the design and have fun with the journey. It is not always about the end result of a tattoo but often the journey to getting one that will last in your memory.
Men’s Spring/Summer 2009 shorts
Monday, June 15th, 2009A few short years ago tailored shorts for men were bang-on-trend; we were moving firmly away from the 1990s and a refined cut of short promised a comfy, distinguished, yet wholly less casual look. They didn’t make it big everywhere, a bugger to find in Australia I ventured off to Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge for my navy pair from Paul Smith and they’ve worn beautifully. But for the gent wanting an updated look for their Spring/Summer 2009 wardrobe where to from here?
Tailored shorts certainly aren’t out; they’re yet to reach their peak in fact particularly when you consider the slow take-up of short suits by men. But if you’re looking for something a little less straight, and something that shows some flair how about the above to pair of shorts?
Some will say the pair on the left takes its inspiration from the women’s ‘harem pants’ fashion trend. While the pair certainly has a ‘British man in the East’ feel to them, Unconditional’s Drop Crotch Pleated Short are most likely going to end up in a street infused wardrobe and worn with a bevy other black pieces.
The stand out pair for the season seems to be the Unconditional’s Wrap Shorts in cotton twill (pictured above, right). Cuffed and breaking above the knee they are decidedly fashion forwards, but the wrap front gives them a casual edge that doesn’t come across as evoking the ‘harem’ trend as strongly as the drop crotch pair.
The key to these two pairs of shorts, apart from their cotton/metallic blend, is that they both obey the modern rules of men’s shorts or, rather, they don’t transgress into the realm of things to avoid.
Shorts To Avoid
Cargo Shorts
Shorts that break below the knee
Avid wash or bleached shorts in denim
Overly patterned shorts
Fashion’s generation gap on show
Monday, June 15th, 2009The generation gap was on show at Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday with collections from Esteban Cortazar, the 23-year-old new designer at Emanuel Ungaro, and Karl Lagerfeld, the 74-year-old maestro of French fashion.
Lagerfeld, presenting his own name collection ahead of showing his Chanel creations on Friday, unveiled a show of mannish tailoring and lots of black, two styles emerging as strong trends for autumn.
But he maintained the aloofness that has helped Lagerfeld’s career outlive his rivals and kept him at the top of his profession for decades.
Quizzed by reporters after the show whether he ever paid attention to fashion critics, Lagerfeld replied: “I don’t read them,” and remained ever impenetrable in his dark sunglasses.
At Ungaro, the body language of Cortazar, the youngest designer to lead a fashion house, could not have been more different.
Before rapper Eve in the front row, the Bogota-born, Miami-raised son of an artist and a jazz singer ran a lap around the arena-shaped catwalk at the end of the show, signalling to the audience he was wiping his brow with relief.
“It was amazing. I just want to run around and hug all my friends,” Cortazar said backstage, still mopping sweat away from his face.
To Lagerfeld’s directional show of darks suits and long, structured skirts, Cortazar - who was also scheduled against top fashion names Givenchy and Christian Lacroix - offered an alternative as far apart as their birth dates.
His show underlined the adjustment houses face with new talent when their established designer moves on.
While not revolutionary in fashion terms, his collection was classically attractive featuring soft feminine draping in a palette of a milky grey punctuated by splashes of fuchsia.
Material, whether wool or silk, was piled into sumptuous folds around models’ necks or gathered up at the hemlines.
Motifs of exotics plants or pebbles patterned flimsy, barely there dresses aimed at the winter cruise crowd or those in warmer party climes such as his native Florida.
“For a first collection it was a lovely interpretation of the house of Ungaro,” Ken Downing, the fashion director of US department store group Neiman Marcus said. “Congratulations to him.”
History has shown it is not easy for unknowns to take over from the “greats” and new faces at old houses have been a feature - and a difficulty - of this fashion season, reaching its end in Paris this Sunday after New York, London and Milan.
Cortazar’s entry at Ungaro comes after the house burned through four designers since its founder left in 2005.
Gianfranco Ferre, whose eponymous designer died suddenly last year, presented an uneven collection in Milan last week after the designer assigned to take over quit a month before the shows because of “creative differences” with management.
Valentino, the most closely watched show in Paris this week, is another transition story. Alessandra Facchinetti will on Thursday parade her first designs since replacing Valentino Garavani who retired in January.
Facchinetti already knows too well the humiliation that can come with taking over from a maestro. She was ejected from the top creative job at Gucci after only two seasons when she failed to fill the shoes of Tom Ford.

Fashion Trends for Summer 2009
Friday, June 12th, 2009The overall theme of fashion for summer 2009 is an air of drama. Black is back, coats are dramatic, and smart tailoring is going to be huge.
Black is back in a big way - well for most of us it never went away. The stores will be filled with delicious eveningwear particularly black lace, which is sexier than ever whether it’s girlie, 80’s retro, boho or red carpet elegant. This also works well with the next big trend which is Victorian. Full length skirts, high-necked ruffled blouses and puffed sleeves are the main features of this look. You can go for either prim or sexy. Accessorise with boots, hats and gloves for a total look.
Dresses are soft and feminine for summer 2009. Velvet in sumptuous autumnal or jewel colours, while more boho-styled graphic prints will also be around for those of you who loved your hippy chic this summer and don’t want to give it up just yet.
Coats for this winter will be big and dramatic with big collars, possibly in fake fur. The big story however is going to be Houndstooth checks, the bigger and bolder the better. In fact checks are big in all types of clothes this fall, including plaids and tartans which appear on everything from trousers and skirts to bags, shoes and hats.
Tailoring is back as one of the strongest features of summer 2009- in particular the pencil skirt which appears as part of a skirt suit. Skirts of all types are hot for Fall, straight, wide and swirly, and for the slimmest of figures only the ‘bubble’, a tulip shaped skirt which will exaggerate hips, so wear with caution!
National costumes have inspired lots of heavily decorated ethnic styles, in particular Russian styles, thick with embroidery and texture and topped off with a furry Russian-style hat, warm enough for the depths of a Moscow winter. Peru has also provided inspiration for embroidered clothes and bright knits.
There are many gorgeous accessories around this season to complete your outfit. Knee high boots, ideally with laced up details to go with the Victorian and ethnic looks, and platforms are making a comeback, usually with a narrow heel. If you prefer flats there will be lots of ballet pump styles. Metallics in shoes, bags and belts will also be popular. For daytime, bags can be as big as you like, either slouchy hobo styles or classic square types. For evening, bags should be tiny and decorated with tassels, jewels or embroidery.
The detail of the season will be pom-poms on everything from scarves to shoes, and the hottest color for accessories will be purple, preferably with studs.
The Ring A Brief History!
Friday, June 12th, 2009As we all know the popularity of rings increased during the medieval period. People wore rings no matter if they were rich or poor. The most used materials in the making of rings are copper, iron, gold and silver. The class of the person was usually identified by the material the ring was made of.
Faceted jewels began to appear in rings around the 14th century. Some cultures have rings that are usually associated with them. Native Americans are associated with silver and turquoise jewelry. The Greek symbol of the fish, called the Icthus was used by Early Christians. The Irish Claddagh has an interesting story attached to it.
Richard Joyce along with the crew on a fishing boat from the village of Claddagh, Ireland, was captured the same week he was supposed to be married. Goldsmithing was Richard Joyce’s trade while he was enslaved. While he was captured, neither married. Richard Joyce made a ring for his beloved that had two hands holding a heart for love and a crown for loyalty.
Joyce escaped from his captors and returned to Claddagh where he was excited to see his love again and know she had never married. She never gave up hope of his return to her. He gave her the ring that is known as the Claddagh ring. Wearing the Claddagh on your right hand, crown inward means that you are letting people know that you are single.
The person who wears the Claddagh on the right hand with the crown outward is in a committed relationship. Wearing the Claddagh with the crown outward on your left hand says Let our love and friendship reign forever, never to be separated. There are many reasons for wearing rings, one is adornment. Rewards for a job well done include rings such as the one given after the Super Bowl victory.
Rings such as engagement rings and wedding rings symbolize commitment. Women Religious wear rings to show their commitment to God. You can use almost any material to make rings now. Plastic, silver, copper, gold or even wood can be use to make them. Ceramic materials can be used as well.
Rings can be very simple or of something as intricate as filigree. Rings can be plain and simple or be adorned with jewels and/or gemstones, as is the case of birthstone rings. There is a birthstone for each month with its own meaning.
Below you will find a list.
The Garnet is January’s stone the gem of faith and truth; it is believed to stop bleeding, to cure sickness of the blood and infections and it is said to protect from poisons. It is believed that February’s birthstone the Amethyst helps soldiers in battle, hunters to catch prey, control evil thoughts and help the owner have success in business. In order to prevent seasickness, keep them safe, and gain courage and foresight, sailors use the Aquamarine, the stone for March.
The Diamond is April’s stone and is the symbol of strength, courage and invincibility. The diamond is the greatest gift of love. In 1477 Archduke Maximillian of Austria gave a diamond to Mary of Burgundy which started the tradition of engagement rings. The Emerald is the birthstone for May and believed to sharpen the eyesight and mind of the wearer.
As protection against the hazards of long trips travelers used Emeralds. The owner of the Emerald is said to be given the power to predict the future because of its green color. The pearl is the birthstone of June and fresh water pearls are said to give the power of protection, luck, and love.
They provide protection for children from harm and wisdom from experience. The Ruby’s (July) red color is related to protection, courage, physical energy, strength, health, sex, and passion. Associated with it are blood, death, and birth. The August birthstone, the Peridot is said to bring the wearer peace, success, and good luck. It is believed it has the powers of health, protection, and sleep.
It is believed that it attracts love, eases anxiety and negative emotions, and calms anger. The powers of the Saphire (July) include inner peace and spiritual enlightenment. It is associated with the power of healing rheumatism, colic and mental illness. The October birthstone is believed to have healing powers that aid inner beauty, eyesight, and faithfulness. It will assist the user in remembering past lives.
The properties of the Yellow Topaz (Sanskrit for fire) are said to heal both mental and physical illnesses and to prevent death. The Citrine that is also for November is believed to have powers to aid the kidneys, the heart, the digestive tract, liver and muscles. Its powers are the elimination of self-destructive tendencies and it promotes creativity and personal clarity.
December’s birthstone is the Blue Topaz (Sanskrit for fire) and was believed to heal both mental and physical illnesses, and prevent death in the Middle Ages. The powers of attracting money, success, and love are attributed to the Turquoise another stone for December. It is believed also that it offers protection, healing, courage, friendship and luck.
Mental tension is relieved and the mind is comforted. Among the variety of rings there are mother’s rings with birthstones of her kids, friendship rings, engagement rings, wedding rings, and school rings. At the base of the prices for rings is fifty cents (found in toy machines) and at the higher end fifty thousand dollars or more.
A Brief History of Charm Bracelets Part 2
Thursday, June 11th, 2009 Charms still remain a popular jewelry item, as personalized keepsakes in an increasingly mass-produced jewelry market. Popular themes include horoscope signs, birthstone charms, travel souvenirs, and family keepsakes. Many women start collecting charms when they are children, and the charm bracelet grows along with them, reflecting hobbies and personal experience. A charm bracelet can hold a small replica of a graduation cap, wedding bells, or lockets with children’s photos.
Charms are also a popular gift because of their affordable price. An intricate silver charm can be obtained for less than ten dollars, though it is possible to spend hundreds of dollars on a charm made of 18K and set with gems.
Italian charms, a genre in and of themselves, do not dangle from a chain like traditional charms. Instead, they are soldered onto flat links which snap onto an extensible bracelet. They are embellished with letters, symbols, pictures or stones, or have enamel pictures painted on them. Charms can be snapped on and off these modular bracelets to create new configurations to match different moods and outfits. They are traditionally made of stainless steel or 18k gold. Italian charms are of the same standard size and the resulting bracelet can be customized to fit every wrist; a small size holds 17 or less links, a medium 18, and a large 19 or more.
There are different companies which produce Italian charms, but all brands can be interchanged on the same bracelet. The basic “starter” bracelet of blank links costs approximately five dollars, and the charms cost fifteen dollars and up. China also manufactures Italian charms, and while these are popular (and, as with most Chinese goods, very competitively priced), some consumers report occasional oddities such as reversed images and poor fit.
Lingerie Shopping Tips for Men Part 2
Thursday, June 11th, 2009The second thing you want to do is do some research - DO NOT try to guess her size - unless you find the couch and dog a more comfortable night than your bed and a nice lady in lingerie. Look into the things she already has and get the size of something similar to what you plan to buy. Women’s sizes vary by manufacturer. Meshes and stretchy materials tend to be more forgiving and range sizes (something marked Small/Medium) are a better bet than something marked Size 4. Bra sizes tend to be true or at least close.
Pay attention to things she comments on when watching movies and such - does she go gaga over the things the girls in Sex and the City wear or does she just HAVE to have that dress Mrs. Cleaver was wearing? Note the colors and styles of her regular lingerie - there is usually a difference between a black lingerie lover and a red lingerie lover. Remember, you want to buy something she will wear for you and something that will cause her to think about you when she wears it - so you want it to be her style.
THINGS TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
Avoid anything marked “Control” or “Slimming” These are to suck in bellies and hide excess weight - not the sexiest message in the world, eh?
Gel filled, water filled and cleavage enhancing bras - Okay if it is her style, but otherwise No No No - she may feel like you wish she were larger on top.
Kinky stuff in general doesn’t generally work as an “I love you” kind of gift unless it is something you two have talked about and decided you wanted to try out. It is not the kind of thing you want to just buy on your own but more of a joint decision.
A word or two about presentation: Handing her the bag from the store with the receipt attached takes some of the romance out of the gift. Most stores will have a gift-wrapping service for a couple of bucks. After all of the thought you put into the lingerie, it is well worth it - otherwise, you can go to any card and gift shop and get a nice gift bag and tissue paper and a sexy card and make your own pretty package.
Shopping online: One of the great things about shopping for lingerie online is that there is a ton of information available that you simply cannot find in a lingerie store. When browsing an online lingerie retailer take a look at their gift ideas, top sellers list et cetera for ideas of what are popular choices.
KEEP THE RECEIPT Even after all of your hard work and dedication she just may prefer something else - always keep the receipt in a safe place and you can go back together to pick out a replacement. Use it as a learning experience to find out what she liked or did not like and next time you can make an even better choice.
